ANGELS’ VILLAGE 

 Angels’ Village is an integral project quite unique in its concepts to care for the differently abled and to give them education, training and rehabilitation opportunities so that they can lead as meaningful a life as their ability will provide. Angels’ Village attempts to understand and nurture the diversity of the person and offer opportunities for integrating the differently abled into the mainstream of society wherein they will feel capable, loved and wanted. Through this project, we aspire to eliminate as much as possible the problems of livelihood for the differently abled. We believe that differently abled does not mean unable. We promote their dignity of life and express that they have a right to life as much as any other citizen and also that society has the responsibility to provide every opportunity to life, freedom and justice promised to each citizen of the nation. So that the differently abled is given the best opportunities to be a useful citizen of the nation – a viable contributor to nation building. Angels’ village is here to intervene the life of the differently abled form the Womb to Tomb.

Objectives of Angels’ village

  1. To organize womb to tomb rehabilitation services to intellectually challenged persons.
  2. To demonstrate an early intervention model for the babies at risk
  3. To design an early childhood special education services as a continuation of early intervention.
  4. To implement curriculum based special education at primary and secondary level students with special needs.
  5. To demonstrate a transition into the employment services for students at pre- vocational level.
  6. To continue life skills training for severe students at pre-vocational level
  7. Provide vocational training with certification for intellectually challenged adults
  8. To train to cope-up with the needs during gracefully ageing with the family.
  1. Asha Nilayam special school

Asha Nilayam Society has relentlessly worked for the cause of the weaker sections of society, especially the mentally and physically challenged children (Autism, cerebral palsy and multiple disability). A school for the mentally challenged children was started in 1979. There were 11 students in the first batch and the school functioned in a rented premise. In 1986, constructed a building for the school at Ponkunnam. Now there are 242 mentally challenged children in this school. There are 48 teaching and non-teaching staff. The existing building facilities were less, so that we have constructed a new building. Most of the students are from economically challenged families and so, they cannot afford to pay the school or boarding fees. We give them everything with free of cost.

Children with special needs are given different ways of education and training opportunities in the Asha Nilayam special school. So that they can lead a meaningful life as their ability will provide. Early detection and intervention for the individual in proper time, which is very important to them. Orientation for parents about how to care and educate differently abled children. Educating the children according to the curriculum of Kerala government. Appropriate therapies, toilet and grooming training, life skill training, and extracurricular activities like music, band dance, yoga, computer, art and craft, pre vocational training etc. Thus improving skills and talents through training to help the children become self-reliant and thus integrate them into family and society.

  1. Asha home

Asha Home is a boarding facility for the mentally challenged girls attending Asha Nilayam special school. The students are from low income group of families

  1. Asha Kiran
    Asha Kiran is a boarding for the mentally challenged adults. All these children are from financially challenged families which are not properly support the needs of these children with special needs.
  2. Asha Nikethan

Asha Nikethan is a boarding for the mentally challenged children below the age of 18 years.

 

  1. Angels’ home

Angel home is a unique community living project or lifelong stay and care for the differently abled children with their parents. Special habitat for each family in their exclusive homes. Ensuring Worry free living to these children and parents through Angels’ Home. Special education, skill training, therapies, sports and arts, agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry etc. like all the facilities in the Angels’ Village can be made used by Angels’ Home members. This project is a viable alternative to stay with the children and given them as much emotional and physical support and attentions as they can. And have a safe and secure place for their children’s future.

6 Angels’ Garden –This garden is mainly prepared for the children at risk who are attending early intervention services. It is also used for sensory training. Children with Autism, Cerebral palsy and multiple disability etc. can use this facility for the alround development during early intervention.

7 Angels’  – Ashwas Vocational training Centre:

 Purpose of this centre is to train the transition group of mentally challenged adolescents, 15 to 18 years of age attending Asha Nilayam in work readiness skills. The centre has trades such as machine made carry bags, tailoring, craft activities etc. As they are getting ready, transferred to Ashwas vocational training and farm school

8 Angels’ shop

Angels’ Shop is a supermarket which is managed by differently abled children and their parents. Products prepared by them in different centres are sold in the shop. They can work according to their aptitude and capability.

9 Ashwas Multi Category Agro farm school

It is an ambitious project to impart training and empowerment facilities to differently abled adults towards sustainability and income generating from agricultural, horticulture and animal husbandry trades. These activities have therapeutic effect. The adults with intellectual disability show more enthusiasm and continue to engage in these activities even in their families.

10 . Ashwas Vocational Training Centre

Sustainable Transition into Employment of persons with intellectually Disability (STEP with ID)

The children who completed the training in different schools are promoted to the vocational training centre. It provides training, empowerment and rehabilitation facility to the adults of mentally challenged. We give a comprehensive approach to Agriculture and non-agricultural activities. This is an initiative to empower and develop the skills and capacity of intellectually challenged adults by acquiring a job training and definite job opportunity that they can be stand on their own leg. When the differently abled come together with their talents and if they complement one another can be a part making a better world. “With realization of one’s own potential and self – confidence in one’s ability, one can build a better world”. This project propose to expand and widen the scope of the vocational training program and engage them in meaningful tasks.

11 Angels’ Park – It has WIDE play area, long ride path way, vegetable and fruits garden, flower garden, teak wood plantation, swimming pool etc. for the enjoyment of all types of students with disability attending Angels’ village.
